About the Ojibwe language.

Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin) is spoken around the Great Lakes and westward: in Ontario and Manitoba in Canada, including the area around Thunder Bay, and in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Dakota in the United States. It belongs to the Algonquian branch of the Algic family, related to Cree, which has its own page.

Ojibwe has several dialects, including Odawa and Oji-Cree in some classifications. It is usually written in the Roman alphabet with the double-vowel system, and in northern Ontario also in Canadian syllabics. Tell us which community and writing system your readers use and we will follow it.

Official documents in Canada and the United States are issued in English (and in Canada also French), which we also translate. Ojibwe work is usually community, health and education information, cultural and language material, signage, and interpreting.

We translate in both directions, including Ojibwe into English. A certified translation is available for these. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.
