About the Cree language.
Cree is spoken across Canada, from Alberta and Saskatchewan to northern Ontario, Quebec and Labrador. It is the most widely spoken Indigenous language in Canada and an official language of the Northwest Territories. It belongs to the Algonquian branch of the Algic family. The native name shown here is Plains Cree, nēhiyawēwin.
Cree is a chain of dialects, including Plains, Woods, Swampy, Moose and East Cree, which differ in sounds and vocabulary. It is written in Canadian syllabics and in the Roman alphabet; Plains Cree communities often use Standard Roman Orthography. Tell us the dialect and the writing system your readers use and we will deliver in it.
Canadian official documents are issued in English or French, which we also translate. Cree work is usually community, health and education information, public notices, cultural and language material, and interpreting.
We translate in both directions, including Cree into English or French. A certified translation is available for these. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.
