About the Zarma language.
Zarma (Zarmaciine) is spoken in south-western Niger along the Niger River, including the capital Niamey and the Dosso and Tillabéri regions, and by Zarma communities in Nigeria and abroad. It is the second most widely spoken language of Niger after Hausa, and one of the country's national languages.
Zarma belongs to the Songhay languages, a group usually placed in the Nilo-Saharan family, although that classification is debated. It is written in the Latin alphabet, with letters such as ŋ and ɲ. It is close to the Songhay spoken in Mali, but has its own spelling and vocabulary.
Official documents from Niger are usually in French, which we also translate. Zarma work is usually interpreting for immigration, legal and medical appointments, community and health information, and personal letters and statements.
