Parental Consent Affidavit in South Africa.

South African Home Affairs guidance uses the term Parental Consent Affidavit for the sworn consent document that may accompany a child’s birth certificate or equivalent record when a parent is not travelling with the child.

Current guidance states that the affidavit must not be older than six months when presented in the circumstances described.

Travel requirements can change and differ according to the child’s nationality and circumstances. The receiving border, embassy or immigration authority should always be checked for the current requirement.

A common situation

One parent travelling with a child.

Official child-travel guidance links several records directly: the child’s passport, the birth certificate or equivalent document, the consent of the non-travelling parent, and a copy of that parent’s identity document or passport.

When more than one of these documents needs translation, send them together so names, dates and identity numbers stay consistent across the set.

Larger document sets

Unaccompanied minors.

An unaccompanied child may have a larger document set, including parental consent, host details, and identity information for the person receiving the child. If several of those documents require translation, send the complete bundle so names, dates and contact information remain consistent.

Alternatives

What if consent cannot be obtained?

Official guidance recognises alternatives in specific circumstances, including a court order granting the relevant parental responsibilities or guardianship, or a court order giving permission for the child to travel.

Whether an alternative applies in your case is a matter for the relevant authority, not something Premium Lingua advises on. If a court order is involved, it can be translated as part of the travel document set.
