About the Moroccan Arabic language.
Moroccan Arabic, called Darija, is the everyday spoken language of most Moroccans and of a large Moroccan community in Europe. It is a variety of Arabic, but it differs strongly from the Arabic of the Middle East, with many words from Berber, French and Spanish, and speakers of other dialects often find it hard to follow.
Darija is mainly spoken. When it is written, informally, it uses Arabic script or Latin letters. Official documents are written in Modern Standard Arabic, which our Arabic page covers; this page is for the spoken language. Moroccan official documents are issued in Modern Standard Arabic and French, and we translate both.
Darija matters most for spoken and informal work: interpreting for interviews, hearings and medical appointments, subtitles and voice-over, and marketing or social media aimed at Moroccan audiences.
We translate and interpret in both directions. Moroccan names are often spelled in more than one way, so we keep them consistent with the passport or other documents you supply. A certified translation is available for these. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.
