About the Mam language.
Mam is one of the most widely spoken Mayan languages of Guatemala. It is spoken in the western highlands, in Huehuetenango, San Marcos and Quetzaltenango, across the border in Chiapas, Mexico, and by large Guatemalan communities in the United States. It is written in the Latin alphabet.
Mam spelling follows the standard of Guatemala's Academy of Mayan Languages, with an apostrophe for glottalised consonants. Its regional varieties differ a great deal, so tell us the speaker's town or department and we will match the interpreter or translator. K'iche', Kaqchikel and Q'eqchi' have their own pages.
Guatemalan official documents are issued in Spanish, which we also translate. Mam work is usually interpreting for immigration, court and medical appointments, and health, education and community information for Mam speakers who do not read Spanish well.
We translate and interpret in both directions, including Mam into English or Spanish. A certified translation is available for these. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.
