About the Malay language.
Malay is the national language of Malaysia and Brunei and one of the official languages of Singapore. It is normally written in the Latin alphabet (Rumi), and sometimes in an Arabic-based script called Jawi, especially in religious and some official contexts.
Malaysian Malay and Indonesian are closely related, but vocabulary and spelling differ. Content for Indonesia should use Indonesian. Some documents and signage use Jawi. Tell us if your document or audience needs it. Malay names often use a patronymic (bin or binti followed by the father's name) instead of a family surname. We keep the name exactly as it appears on the identity document.
Malay to English is usually personal, civil, academic and company documents. English to Malay is usually business, tourism and marketing content.
Common Malay documents include birth certificates, marriage certificates, degree certificates and academic transcripts. A certified translation is available for these. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.
