Individual document translation

Professional Qualification Certificate Translation.

Professional translation of qualification, registration and occupational certificates for professional recognition, employment, immigration and official use in South Africa and abroad.

A qualification, a professional designation, professional registration and occupational certification are four different things. The translation keeps them distinct.

Not interchangeable

Qualification vs professional registration.

Qualification certificate

Shows the education or training that was awarded.

Professional registration or licence

Shows authority to practise or to use a designation, where applicable.

These documents can be related, but they are not interchangeable. The translation preserves the terminology of the source document rather than reclassifying a professional licence as an academic qualification.

Two roles

SAQA vs professional bodies.

SAQA evaluates foreign qualifications within the South African NQF. Professional bodies may separately determine whether the qualification and other requirements are sufficient for professional registration or designation.

A translation supports both processes without deciding either. It does not tell an evaluating body or a professional council what the qualification is equivalent to.

A South African detail

Occupational and trade certificates.

The QCTO issues occupational and trade certificates and verifies specified categories, while some other records must be verified by the relevant SETA or the DHET.

Because the verification route depends on the type of certificate, tell us what kind of qualification you hold and which body will receive the translation.

Translation practice

Qualification titles should not be converted.

A translation communicates the source qualification or designation accurately. Determining whether it is equivalent to a South African qualification, licence or professional designation is an evaluation or regulatory decision, not a translation decision.
