About the Swahili language.
Swahili (Kiswahili) is a national or official language in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, is widely used in Rwanda and eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and is one of the working languages of the African Union. It is a Bantu language written in the Latin alphabet, with many words borrowed from Arabic and English. Other Bantu languages we translate include Kikuyu, Kinyarwanda, Luganda and Bemba.
Swahili in Tanzania and Kenya differs in some vocabulary and in how formal documents are worded. Tell us which country the reader is in. Official documents may not be in Swahili. Many official records from Kenya and Uganda are issued in English, and records from the DRC are often in French. Check the language on the document itself before you order.
Swahili to English is usually personal and official documents from East Africa. English to Swahili is usually public information, community notices, NGO material and business content for East African audiences.
Common Swahili documents include birth certificates, marriage certificates, police clearance certificates and academic transcripts. A certified translation is available for these. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.

For official documents, tell us which institution will receive your Swahili translation and send its written requirements. We assess the language pair and confirm whether the project needs a signed statement of accuracy, a sworn translator or another process. Acceptance is decided by the receiving institution.
Common documents include birth certificates, marriage certificates, degree certificates and police clearance certificates. Requirements differ between courts, embassies, universities and immigration authorities, so tell us where the Swahili translation will be submitted and send any written instructions you have. If an authority asks for a sworn translation, ask us to confirm availability for the language pair.
